Baltimore's Evergreen Museum & Library - March 24th

If you have never visited Baltimore’s Evergreen Museum & Library – you are in for a treat!

Evergreen Museum & Library is housed in a Gilded Age mansion surrounded by 26 acres of gardens and woods. The museum is home to a renowned collection of fine and decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts assembled by two generations of Baltimore’s civic-minded Garrett family (1878-1952). Though originally constructed in 1858, Evergreen was drastically expanded and altered by the Garretts to accommodate their eclectic collections, and today is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can experience the museum through guided tours that explore the Garretts, their extraordinary collections, and Evergreen’s transformation from a country villa to a hub for contemporary musicians, writers, and artists.

The Woodlands Presents A Daytrip to Wonderful Winterthur - May 5th

More than fifty years ago, Delaware native Henry Francis duPont began welcoming visitors to his childhood home, Winterthur, to see its magnificent gardens and view his amazing collection of decorative arts and architecture.

There’s a lot to do – pick what you’re interested in – at your own pace.

In the mansion, explore American history through the spaces, stories, and objects that shaped the nation. Discover the enduring influence of colonial American architecture, an unparalleled collection of decorative arts, and the transformation of a private estate into a museum devoted to preserving and interpreting the American experience.

Winterthur galleries highlight America’s history, cultural heritage, and design through objects from the museum and library collections. Featuring furniture and objects collected by Henry Francis du Pont as well as those acquired by the curators since the museum’s founding in 1951, these spaces provide opportunities for close observation, careful study, and appreciation of craft, style, and historical significance.

You can take time to visit the gift shop and the gardens.

A visit to Historic Kenmore - May 19th

Completed in 1775 and now celebrating its 250th year, Historic Kenmore is a beautiful, Georgian-style brick mansion built for George Washington’s sister, Betty Washington Lewis, and her husband, Fredericksburg, Virginia merchant Fielding Lewis.

From its front entry to the elaborate plaster ceilings inside, the house was built to impress people who understood wealth. Now, it stands as Historic Kenmore, surrounded by manicured lawns and stories that seep from every floorboard.

Lunch at one of my favorite restaurants (at your own expense!) in downtown Fredericksburg, La Petite Auberge.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens - June 9th

Come celebrate what’s new at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden!

Last year we explored the gardens and saw the construction of the Conservatory – It’s open now! And it is GLORIOUS!

One of my favorite parts is the Butterfly Exhibition!

Imagine making personal friends with these gentle creatures, as they fly around us – and may actually land on us!
