Veteran's Day Remembrance Program

On Thursday, November 11th residents gathered at the flag pole for a ceremony to honor all veterans. The program included a brief history of Veteran’s Days, presentation of the colors and singing of patriotic songs. A display set-up in The Woodlands lobby honors all of the veterans currently living in our community.

Staying Safe from Scams

Scammers try new tricks all the time, but if you know what to look for you can protect yourself.  Melissa Smarr from Fairfax County’s Silver Shield Task Force will be here on November 8th to discuss the top scams of the year including the scams that come around every holiday season.

The Woodlands provided multiple trips to our polling place for residents on Election Day. Residents are very appreciative of the wonderful curb-side voting service made possible by Fairfax County – no need to worry about the weather or standing in line!

Halloween at senior living community

5th Annual Halloween Parade

On Saturday evening, October 30th, 29 residents dressed up and treated diners to a Halloween Parade. Spooky specials at dinner included Witches’ Brew Beef Stew, Eye of Newt Italian Salad, Ravioli from the Blue Lagoon and of course, plenty of candy for everyone!

The Woodlands is home to many talented residents who displayed their varying works of art on Monday, October 25th. Included in the show were paintings, hand woven baskets and hand carved ducks, lamps and a variety of needle work.

The Woodlands hosted a COVID-19 Booster Shot Clinic on Thursday, October 14th for all residents and staff of The Woodlands. The Woodlands is very pleased to have a 100% vaccination rate for both residents and staff.

The Great Courses is a series of college-level video courses on a wide range of topics from health and wellness to history and science. Each month we watch and discuss different topics intended to broaden our knowledge helping us live life to the fullest.
October’s topic is the Scientific Wonder of Birds.
All residents are invited to join Great Courses on the first Monday of each month in the Theater.

The Culinary Team treated residents and staff to a complimentary lunch on a beautiful fall day, September 30th. Neighbors gathered to enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs with all of the traditional picnic sides and desserts.

Fight the FLu

The Woodlands annual flu shot clinic, available to all residents, took place on September 28th. The senior dose of this year’s flue vaccine was provided to residents by Vienna Pharmacy.
Next up… COVID-19 booster shot clinic on October 14th. The Woodlands is pleased to have a 100% vaccination rate for both residents and staff.

Ongoing - Move Your Body

Moving your body is one of the best ways to prevent falls. Offered in addition to our weekly exercise classes, this program focuses on specific strength, balance, and flexibility exercises that maintain independence and prevent falls. Our Move Your Body program will improves balance and posture, strengthens muscles and bones and improves overall fitness and general well being.

All residents are invited to join Woodlands Fitness Instructors Teresa and Brian on the second Tuesday of each month for a new installment of Move Your Body.

The Woodlands Singers, comprised of about 30 residents, performed a concert for their neighbors over the holiday weekend. The singers are now preparing for their Holiday concert in December.
